How Much Does a Massage Cost in Cape Town?
Short answer
A 60-minute full body massage in Cape Town costs about R450 to R750 at a neighbourhood studio, R550 to R750 at a day spa, and R1,450 or more at a five-star hotel spa. At Lanna in Sea Point it is R500, or R670 for 90 minutes.
Prices checked and updated September 2026.
Ask what a massage costs in Cape Town and the honest answer is a range, not a number. Two spas a few hundred metres apart can charge R450 and R750 for the same hour, and a hotel spa up the coast will charge three times that. Here is what each tier actually buys, and where we sit in it.
What a massage costs in Cape Town
Prices below are for a 60-minute full body massage, the treatment most people mean when they ask. They come from spas' own published booking rates, checked in September 2026.
| Where | 60-minute full body | What the price includes |
|---|---|---|
| Sea Point massage studios | R450 – R750 | The treatment and a therapist. No facilities. |
| Lanna, 156 Main Road | R500 | Thai, oil, aromatherapy or Swedish, oils included |
| Day spa groups | R550 – R750 | A larger venue, often sold as a package |
| Five-star hotel spas | R1,450+ | Pools, steam rooms, robes, lunch, the view |
Ranges are typical published rates, not quotes, and they move. Confirm with any spa before booking.
The top of that table is not an exaggeration. The Twelve Apostles, on the Atlantic seaboard, states on its own spa page that its pools and tranquillity lounge are open to you with any treatment booking of R1,450 or more per person. That is the entry point before you have chosen a massage — which tells you plainly what a hotel spa is selling.
So the same hour of hands-on work ranges from about R450 to well over R1,450 depending on the room it happens in. Ours is R500.
Why the same hour costs R450 or R1,450
The room, not the massage
Rent on Main Road, a receptionist, a steam room, laundry, robes: all of it lands in the hourly price before a therapist touches anyone. This is most of the gap.
How the hour is counted
Some spas count your hour from the appointment time, including consultation, changing and dressing. Ten minutes disappears. Ask whether the quoted time is time on the table — it is a fair question and the answer tells you plenty.
Technique and training
Deep tissue costs more than a relaxing oil massage almost everywhere, ours included: R570 against R500 at 60 minutes. It is physically harder to deliver and fewer therapists are trained for it — see full body massage options. Traditional Thai massage is the same story — it is assisted stretching and pressure-point work, closer to physiotherapy than to a rub, and it takes years to learn.
What is quoted versus what is charged
Add-ons are where a R450 massage becomes R800. Hot stones, back scrubs and head treatments are often extra. Our packages bundle them at a fixed price so the number you are told is the number you pay.
Where Lanna sits, honestly
We are not the cheapest massage in Sea Point, and we do not try to be. R450 exists on this road. What R500 buys here:
- Sixty minutes on the table. The time you book is the time you get. Consultation and changing are not counted in it.
- Therapists trained in Thai technique, not a generic rub relabelled. Lanna is the old northern Thai kingdom, and traditional Thai massage is the treatment we were built around.
- The oils are included. Aromatherapy is R500 for 60 minutes with the essential oils in the price, not a R150 upgrade.
- The same price seven days a week, 9am to 9pm, including Sundays and public holidays. No weekend surcharge, and late enough to come after work.
- 4.5 stars across 171 Google reviews, which is the part we did not write.
Against the cheapest hour on the road, we cost about R50 more and can tell you exactly what that R50 is. Against a hotel spa, we are a third of the price for the same hour of work, because we do not have pools to pay for. Which trade suits you depends on what you came for.

Common questions
About R450 to R750 for 60 minutes at a neighbourhood studio in Sea Point, R550 to R750 at a day spa, and R1,450 or more at a five-star hotel spa. At Lanna it is R500 for 60 minutes, or R670 for 90.
It is physically harder to deliver and fewer therapists are trained for it, so it costs more almost everywhere. At Lanna a 60-minute deep tissue sports massage is R570 against R500 for Thai, oil or aromatherapy.
Not by itself. Most of the difference between a R500 and a R1,450 massage is the room — pools, steam rooms, hotel overheads — rather than the treatment. What does change the massage is the therapist's training and how many minutes you actually spend on the table.
Around double a single treatment, because it is two therapists working at once. At Lanna two 60-minute massages side by side come to R1000, and a 45-minute pair to R900. See couples massages.
Tipping is welcome but never expected. Around 10% is normal if you are happy with the treatment.
Booking
We are at 156 Main Road, Sea Point, open every day from 9am to 9pm. Book a treatment, or call 079 527 7901 if you would rather ask first. If you are comparing us with the spa down the road, ask both of us how long you are on the table and what the final price is. We are happy to be measured on that.
